9th Floor Conference Room
Film and Discussion
Come view a documentary about the death of Jonny Gammage by police in Brentwood, Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh. During a traffic stop, five officers knelt on his back until he stopped breathing. The subsequent prosecutions resulted in mistrials and acquittals of the officers. However, a Department of Justice investigation resulted in a consent decree and sweeping changes in criminal justice practice in the Pittsburgh area. The discussion of the film will be lead by filmmaker Billy Jackson, Sean Forbes of the NYPD, John Jay College student Jarad Thomas, and sociology professor Janice Jackson-Dias.
Event sponsors: John Jay College Division of Student Affairs, the Center for Development and Leadership, the Urban Male Initiative, the Department of Africana Studies, and the Center on Race, Crime & Justice.
